1. Parliament

Parliament Building

Széchenyi rakpart Budapest, Budapest, 1055

The Parliament is a good place to start. The Hungarian Parliament building is one of the oldest parliaments in Europe. This grand building is stately and definitely not to be missed. Take the Number 2 (red line) train to Kossuth Lajos Ter. Can't miss the building across the station. To get access to tours inside the building, you would need to go to the Parliament to get tickets for the same day. Go early, as tickets sell out often.

After exploring the building, take a stroll by the Parliament gardens or walk down to the banks of the Danube. Great angle view of the Parliament from the narrow path next to the river.

2. Voci Street

Federick Tere Station

9 Ferenciek tere Budapest, Budapest, 1052

Get Directions

Take the Number 2 (red line) train again to Ferenciek Tere Station. Walk east on Szabad Sajto Way until you fall on Vaci street. Make a left and explore the offerings from stores on this pedestrian only street. Keep walking until you get to Great Central Market Hall.

3. Central Market Hall

Great Market Hall

This is an amazing market - the first floor is food - otherwise referred to as kitchen market - all you need for groceries: fruits, vegetables, pickles, meats, sausages, and even caviar!

Upstairs, do some souvenir shopping - you don't want to leave Budapest without some locally made handy-craft (or at least Budapest magnets).

Grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurant, but not on Voci street - far too many tourist traps.

If you have a little time to relax, cross the Szabadsag bridge on foot and go to the Gellert Baths for a traditional Hungarian thermal bath.

4. View of Parliament from across the Danube.

Betthyany Ter Station

Batthyány tér Budapest, Budapest, 1011

Get Directions

Walk to Kalvin Ter Station to take the Number 3 (blue line) train towards Ujpest-Kospont; change at Deak Ferenc Ter Station and change to the the Number 2 line (red) towards Deli Palyaudvar. Get off at Batthyany.

You will see a beautiful view of the parliament once you get above ground.

5. Buda Castle

Buda Castle

Kemal Atatürk sétány Budapest, Budapest, 1013

Get Directions

Walk south on Bem Rakpart - towards where the trams are headed from the Batthyany Ter Station. Bem Rakpart will curve and fall on Fo Street - keep walking in the same direction until you reach Clark Adam roundabout. Just behind is the funicular to Buda Castle.

A must see, Buda Castle has amazing views of Pest side of town from high above.
